Two Modesto men were jailed Tuesday morning, April 11 after their Honda was stopped for running a stop sign at Avon and River roads.

At 1:36 a.m. Officer Matthew Berlier pulled over driver Bobby Essary, 44, who was driving around Randall Burkhart, 24, also of Modesto. Both men were found to be on probation for drug charges.

Berlier spotted a plastic bag on the ground outside of the passenger door and saw it contained white crystal substance which appeared to be methamphetamine. Burkhart admitted the substance was his. Officer Eric Gallegos arrived and assisted with this investigation. A search of the vehicle revealed additional methamphetamine and paraphernalia found near the driver's seat and center console. Both individuals admitted to being meth users.

Also located were three "shaved" vehicle keys commonly used to break into vehicles. One key was for a GM brand vehicle, one for a Mitsubishi, and one for a Honda.

Essary was charged with possession of controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, and probation violation.
