Cell phone thief captured
Ceres Cop Car

A 17-year-old Ceres teen boy was booked into Juvenile Hall on robbery charges Thursday evening after he was found by police with a cell phone he stole earlier from another teen.

At 7:50 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of Faith Home Road and Whitmore Avenue for a robbery of a cell phone that had just occurred. An officer located the victim on foot at Whitmore Avenue and Eastgate Boulevard. He told the officer he was riding his bike and stopped to switch music on his phone when two boys approached and asked for his phone to make a call. The victim offered to call for them but the pair grabbed the phone and rode off on a BMX type bike. Officer Matt Berlier searched the area and made contact with one suspect who was reportedly lying on the ground at Whitmore Avenue and Faith Home Road. The 17-year-old was detained and positively identified by the victim as one of the suspects. The officer found the stolen phone in the teen's pocket.

The second suspect was not found.

Police would not release the teen's name because of a state law that protects the identities of minors.
