A 51-year-old Ceres man racked up a number of serious charges when he tried to flee from Ceres Police and was apprehended after a dangerous high-speed pursuit on country roads Friday evening.

Officer Aaron Pinon attempted to stop a black 2006 Subaru Impreza for an enforcement stop at 11:47 p.m., but the driver did not yield. Augustine Melena led Officer Pinon on a pursuit which reached the speeds of 95 mph on county roadways. The pursuit ended in Keyes when Melena attempted to make a turn but lost control and struck a fence and a residence. Melena fled on foot but was later apprehended by officers.

Melena was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of evading a peace officer recklessly in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, reckless driving and hit-and-run.
