Members of the Ceres Police SWAT team apprehended two Ceres teenagers who are believed connected to a Monday evening shooting in the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk parking lot.

Santa Cruz Police received reports of gun shots in the lot at the corner of Beach and Riverside at approximately 9:02 p.m. on Monday, August 3. Nobody was hit by the gunfire, police determined.

Santa Cruz officers canvassed the area for suspects, secured the crime scene, and located numerous pieces of evidence. Their investigation led them to link the shooting to vehicles and the two 17-year-olds who made it back to Ceres.

Santa Cruz Police Chief Bernie Escalante told Fox News Channel 2 that ”at the onset there was a lot of confusion, a lot of chaos, people were extremely scared as to be expected.”

He said the shooting stemmed from an altercation between two groups in the parking lot and one individual pulled out a gun and fired off multiple rounds.

The park was evacuated and closed one hour earlier than normal.

The Ceres and Santa Cruz agencies collaborated to storm the 2500 block of Kay Street where the suspects were arrested at gunpoint on Tuesday morning. The Ceres Police Department SWAT Team served a search warrant at the residence to secure additional evidence by Santa Cruz Police detectives for processing and investigation.

The names of those arrested were not released because of a state law protecting the identity of minors involved with crimes.
