Ceres woman arrested in car theft

A 38-year-old Ceres woman was busted early Tuesday morning as she drove around in a stolen Toyota Matrix. Her passenger was arrested for a felony warrant.

Officer Eric Souza was on patrol in the northwest area of Ceres at 12:40 a.m. when he spotted a black Toyota Matrix traveling southbound on Herndon Road near Nadine Avenue. Officer Souza remembered from the briefing at the start of his shift that a Toyota Matrix had been stolen.

Once he confirmed it was the stolen Toyota, Officer Souza followed the vehicle until it stopped in the 1300 block of Bluejay Way. The occupants of the vehicle were ordered out of the vehicle.

Driver Iris Santana, 38, of Ceres, was arrested for grand theft auto. Her passenger, Deanna Rodriguez, 32, of Modesto, was arrested for a felony warrant.

The vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner at the scene.
