Ceres Police attempted to pull over a 32-year-old Palo Alto man riding on a stolen motorcycle early Sunday morning but he wasn’t arrested until he was chased down into the next county by the California Highway Patrol.

At 12:03 a.m., Ceres Police Officer Aaron Pinon was on patrol in the area of Crows Landing Road and Whitmore Avenue when he saw Victor Solano Landa commit vehicle code violations while riding the Honda motorcycle. When the officer tried to pull over Landa, he kept riding northbound on Crows Landing Road and onto northbound Highway 99.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit assisted in the pursuit which allowed Ceres Police to disengage from the chase and allow the California Highway Patrol to take over. The pursuit remained mostly on the highway and ended when Landa surrendered in San Joaquin County on westbound Interstate 580 near the Grantline Road exit.

The CHP took Landa into custody and Officer Pinon drove to the officers’ location to take custody of him. Records checks revealed Landa had a felony warrant for his arrest and that the motorcycle was stolen. During a pat-down search, a small baggy of suspected methamphetamine was located on the suspect.

Landa was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of felony evading police in a vehicle, auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and the felony warrant.
