Child hurt during assault

A Ceres man was arrested for assaulting a female friend and in the process hurting her child in a walker.

The incident happened at Vineyard Apartments, 1625 Richland Ave., when Brian Brummit, 37, of Ceres, and the 26-year-old woman were involved in an argument over the use of her EBT card. The fights became physical and Brummit allegedly knocked her over and her two-year-old child out of walker. The child was hurt with scrapes on the ground.

Brummit was arrested on charges of child endangerment.

In another assault case, an argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend ended with an arrest for assault on Thursday morning.

Police were called to the 1600 block of Nadine Avenue at 8:11 a.m. for subjects involved in a pushing and shoving match. The daughter of the female tried to break up the fight and was allegedly struck in th head with a metal rod by Richard Thompson, 43, of Modesto. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
