A citizen who saw that a man passed out drunk behind the wheel of his car did a favor for police and others when he took the keys out of the ignition and called 911 Friday evening.

At 8:57 p.m., Officer Brian Chandler was dispatched to Whitmore and Central avenues, to investigate a report of a car stopped and facing the wrong way on the road. When he arrived he found that a citizen had seized the keys to prevent the man from leaving if he tried to drive. Domingo Meza, 33, of Ceres appeared to be intoxicated and was arrested after failing a field sobriety test.

Domingo’s silver Acura MDX was towed as he was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on DUI charges.
