Drive-by shooting may have been drug related

Two vehicles parked in front of a house in the 3600 block of Fallview Drive were riddled with seven bullets in an apparent drive-by shooting over the weekend.

Ceres Police Lt. Brent Smith said the 2:20 a.m. shooting on Saturday caused damage to a 2000 Cadillac and a 2005 BMW.

Investigating officers found a large bag containing 10 small baggies containing what appeared to be crystal methamphetamine near one of the vehicles.

A gold-colored Honda or Toyota was seen leaving the area following the shooting.

Detectives urge information on the shooting to be phoned into them at 538-5727.

Ceres Police worked these other cases:

• SHEARED OFF IN CRASH: CERES - A metal street light pole was sheared off at the ground in a hit and run accident that occurred at 2:24 a.m. on Wednesday morning, March 5.

Police said that the driver of a large pickup fled the scene after the crash in the 2500 block of River Road. The pole landed on a parked 2000 VW Beetle in a nearby driveway. The impact caused moderate damage, including a broken window and radiator.

Detectives would like clues that lead to the suspect. Tips may be phoned into them at 538-5727.

• ATM STOLEN FROM BAR - Police are on the hunt for the person or persons responsible for the theft of an ATM machine after they kicked in the door at the Midway Club, 1419 Mitchell Road, at 3:30 a.m. on March 5.

An alarm alerted police to the burglary. Witnesses told police that they saw gray truck leaving prior to their arrival.

• DRIVER FACES DUI CHARGE - Josue Guardado, 31, of Modesto, was arrested for drunken driving after he allegedly left the Blue Horse Lounge where he was detained Saturday evening by a security guard after a fight and broke away.

The fight broke out at the bar at Mitchell and Service roads at 11:04 p.m. The suspect was seen pulling a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix into Family Pizza Bar where he was stopped by officers. Guardado breathed into a Breathalyzer and registered a 0.16 blood alcohol content. He was arrested for DUI.

• FLEA MARKET THEFT REPORTED - Police are investigating a break-in that affected property in 11 storage units at the Ceres Flea Market on March 5.

The investigation is trying to determine what may have been stolen during the commercial burglary.
