Driver, 23, arrested after police pursuit

An intoxicated 23-year-old Ceres man racked up a number of charges Tuesday evening, May 18 as he led a Ceres Police officer on a chase through the streets of Ceres.

At 9:55 p.m. Officer Frederico Ortiz saw a white BMW 525I run a stop sign on westbound Fowler Road. The driver continued onto Acorn Avenue, increasing speed as Officer Ortiz tried to catch up. The BMW failed to stop for a second stop sign at Myrtle wood Drive. Officer Ortiz caught up to the BMW at Caswell Avenue and Second Street and tried to stop it with his emergency lights and siren. Driver James Beaty, 23, of Ceres, did not stop but led Officer Ortiz on a pursuit. Beaty led officers on a pursuit through city residential streets until he eventually stopped on the southbound Highway 99 on ramp at Mitchell Road.

Beaty appeared to be under the influence of alcohol/drugs and a DUI Investigation was conducted. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of evading a peace officer, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license for DUI, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and violation of probation.
