Ivan Santos Avalos-Macias, 34, of Modesto, was arrested the day before Christmas for allegedly driving intoxicated and crashing into two properties in north Ceres.
A bystander called 9-1-1 at 8:15 a.m. after seeing Avalos-Macias drive his gray Chevy Impala through a stop sign on northbound Central Avenue at River Road. The car crashed through a metal driveway gate on the north side of River Road and backed into a tree before leaving the scene and his front license plate as evidence. The driver sped off westbound on River Road where he lost control and collided into a wooden fence a few hundred feet away.
Police found the suspect at the second crash site. After he failed a series of sobriety tests Avalos-Macias was booked on charges of DUI, not having proof of vehicle insurance, and hit and run.
