Driver of stolen vehicle gets away
Ceres Cop Car

Ceres Police continue to search for the driver of a car that was taken from a family member without permission and was involved in a hit-and-run crash early Thursday, May 10.

At 1:07 a.m. a crash was reported in the area of Moffett Road and Glasgow Drive but when officers arrived they found no vehicles. A short time later, Officer Alexis Ochoa was flagged down by a person who stated a family member took their car without permission and wanted to file a stolen vehicle report. Not long afterward, Officer Ross Bays located the stolen vehicle at 1628 Evans Road. He attempted to stop the driver but the male driving it led police on a short chase, ditched the vehicle and ran off. Officers conducted an extensive search but were unable to locate him, however, a 13-year-old Ceres male passenger was detained by Bays and booked into Juvenile Hall for auto theft.

The vehicle was recovered and returned to the victim.

Officers believe they have identified the driver as a 20-year-old Ceres resident and are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Sgt. Travis Hudson at 538-5706.
