Driver strikes biker, flees, is arrested
Ceres Cop Car

A 23-year-old Ceres man was arrested Tuesday evening after he allegedly ran his car into a motorcycle and its rider and fled the scene.

The crash on Hatch Road at Richland Avenue was reported at 8:22 p.m. Motorcyclist David William Corriea, 59, of Ceres, sustained an injury to his ankle and complained of pain in his leg. He was transported to a local hospital.

A witness followed the black Ford Mustang that struck Corriea and fled the area. The Mustang's driver, 23-year-old Ceres resident Erik Marquez, realized he was being followed and bailed from the car at Central Avenue and Glasgow Drive.

Officer Pat Dayton was directed to Marquez's location on Myrtlewood Drive where he was arrested.

Police learned Corriea did not have a license to drive and did not have insurance. He was issued a citation for his violations. Since he displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, he was arrested by Officer Charles Rushing for felony hit and run and DUI. An evidentiary blood sample was taken and Marquez was booked into the Public Safety Center.
