The theft of a power drill battery from Home Depot ended with the Friday evening arrest of a woman who has a drug addiction problem.

Ceres Police Officer Jonathan Blount was patrolling the parking lot of the closed Kmart store at 7:23 p.m. when he was flagged down by a loss prevention agent from the nearby Home Depot. Officer Blount was told that a female, who later identified as Nichol Sloan, 34, of Modesto, had stolen from the store and was on foot near the McDonald’s at Hatch and Herndon roads.

Officer Blount stopped and searched Sloan who had a DeWALT battery stuffed in her jacket pocket along with heroin, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was booked for shoplifting, and possession of a controlled substance along with the warrant.
