Genaro Cruz, 30, of Modesto was arrested Saturday evening on DUI charges after he was observed by a Ceres Police officer speeding and then failing to yield to the patrol car’s lights and siren.

Officer Adam Hall was on patrol in the area of Whitmore Avenue east of Crows Landing Road at 9:52 p.m. when he spotted a Ford pickup speeding at an estimated 70 mph westbound on Whitmore Avenue. Officer Hall made a U-turn to chase after the vehicle. Cruz accelerated and made an abrupt northbound turn onto Crows Landing Road as he weaved in and out of traffic. Cruz then made an abrupt turn eastbound onto Glenn Avenue, pulling into a parking lot and stopping. Officer Hall stopped and ordered Cruz out of the vehicle and detected an odor of alcohol coming from him. At the conclusion of a DUI investigation, Officer Hall and Officer Kiashira Ruiz, arrested Cruz for DUI. His blood alcohol content was found to be over twice the legal limit.
