Police say that a driver they arrested for drunken driving on nearly struck another vehicle prior to being pulled over on Whitmore Avenue Saturday evening.

George Louns, 30, of Modesto, was arrested for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, driving on a suspended license, and the misdemeanor warrant out of the Stanislaus County Sheriff Department.

At 10:43 p.m. Ceres Police Officer Kamalpreet Gill was patrolling eastbound on Whitmore Avenue behind a Chevy sedan just west of Railroad Avenue when he saw it nearly colliding into another vehicle. Gill pulled the driver over near the freeway.

Gill believed Louns to be intoxicated and saw a small vodka glass bottle in the center console area. Officer Gill questioned Louns regarding alcohol consumption while driving. Louns stated he had previously consumed three tall cans of beer about two hours prior.

Louns' license was suspended for a prior DUI and he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest for failure to appear from the Stanislaus County Sheriff Department. Louns was transported to Ceres Police Department headquarters to conduct field sobriety tests. Louns provided a preliminary breath sample of .10 percent blood alcohol content.
