Empire man hit Ceres patrol car while fleeing scene of disturbance

A 21-year-old Empire man who was involved in a disturbance in a Hatch Road parking lot and who struck a police vehicle in an effort to flee the scene was later apprehended early Saturday.

Ceres Police Sgt. Jon Blount was flagged down at 1:22 a.m. in the parking lot of Raising Cane’s at 1331 Hatch Road about the disturbance. Sgt. Blount was directed to a burgundy-colored Chevrolet Impala being driven by Rosalio Salcedo who steered toward Sgt. Blount’s police vehicle and collided with it as he fled. Officers attempted to stop Salcedo but during the pursuit officers lost sight of his car.

Police identified the registered owner of the vehicle and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies awaited Salcedo at his home in Empire where he was arrested. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of evading a police officer in a vehicle and vandalism to a patrol vehicle.
