Expired tag stop nets concealed loaded gun in car

 A 41-year-old Ceres man riding in a Nissan Altima stopped by police for having expired registration tags was arrested Friday morning because he was on active probation and carrying a loaded concealed handgun under his seat.

Ceres Police Sgt. Dirk Nieuwenhuis made the enforcement stop at 8:29 a.m. at Blaker Road and Hugo Avenue. Passenger Jeffrey Naylor, 41, of Ceres was found to be on active probation. A search of the vehicle turned up the loaded handgun under Naylor’s seat. He was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of possession of a loaded firearm by a felon, altering the serial numbers of a firearm and violation of felony probation.
