Friday crash kills Ceres bike rider
• CHP looking for driver of pickup that fled the scene
CHP hit and run
The CHP released this photo of a dark-colored GMC pickup they believe fatally struck a Ceres bicycle rider on Service Road Friday and fled westbound.

A 27-year-old died Friday afternoon after he rode his bicycle into an intersection of Service Road and Moffet Road and collided with a westbound pickup whose driver fled the scene.

The deadly crash occurred just west of Highway 99 at approximately 6:05 p.m.

The name of the victim was not being released as of Monday morning.

The California Highway Patrol determined that the victim was riding his BMX bike on Service Road and for some unknown reason entered the intersection at Moffet Road in the path of the vehicle, possibly a dark gray or black GMC Sierra crew cab pickup, possibly a 2014 or 2015 model. The impact sent the bicyclist into a wooden power pole and that his lifeless body came to rest on the ground.

The CHP said the driver of the vehicle that struck the victim fled the scene, continuing westbound on Service Road and then northbound onto Blaker Road. The vehicle may have damage to its headlight, fender and mirror. They released an image of the possible hit-and-run vehicle taken from a nearby surveillance video system.

Anyone with any information involving the crash is urged to call Modesto CHP Office at 545-7440.
