Home Depot theft suspect arrested

Police arrested 24-year-old Jonathon Richey of Hughson on Wednesday afternoon, March 28 for allegedly stealing power tools from the Hatch Road Home Depot store.

Store loss prevention officers called Ceres Police at 4:30 p.m. about the theft and about chasing Richey and seeing him ditch the stolen goods near the Dollar Tree. They followed Richey until he reached the area of Hatch Road and Herndon Avenue. Officers Jeremy Caron and Eric Souza apprehended Richey near the northbound highway 99 off-ramp.

Loss prevention officers said they recognized Richey from prior thefts at the store and watched him place several items into a shopping cart. Richey eventually went to the lighting department where he concealed a roofing nail gun inside a backpack. Richey abandoned the shopping cart and exited the store without paying. Store security attempted to stop Richey after he exited the store, but he took off.

Richey had several warrants for his arrest. He was booked for shoplifting along with several felony warrants for his arrest consisting of robbery, forgery, and possession of burglary tools.
