An intoxicated Christopher Segovia, 24, of Ceres, was arrested after he led Ceres Police on a short high-speed pursuit after early Saturday.

The incident started at 2:49 a.m., when Officer Kao Saechao saw Segovia speeding through a stop sign at Brown Avenue and Hackett Road. When Officer Saechao tried to pull over the white sedan Segovia sped away. Segovia made several high-speed turns through residential streets in an effort to evade the officer.

After making an abrupt stop on Big Creek Lane, Segovia jumped out and tried to run off as he realized that he left the vehicle in gear as it started to roll back towards the patrol car. Segovia jumped back into his car and placed it in park, giving the officer an opportunity to handcuff the driver.

A DUI investigation determined that Segovia was too intoxicated to drive and that his blood alcohol level was determined to be just over twice the legal limit.

Segovia faces charges of evading a police officer and DUI.
