A man who police say was intoxicated in his front yard and fired off his shotgun into the air as a way of remembering the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks was arrested.

James Terry, 63, of Ceres, was arrested and charged after police arrived in the 1900 block of Hackett Road in response to a 8:44 p.m. report.

Terry appeared to be intoxicated and admitted to officers firing several shots of the 410 gauge shotgun because it was "911 and he loves America," said Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. James Yandell.

Police also located a .22 caliber rifle. Terry was arrested and charged with the negligent discharge of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
