Reports of a male relative under the influence of drugs and armed with a knife sent Ceres Police officers to a Karenell Court residence at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28.

Police tried calling the man, Jimmy Campbell, 34, of Ceres, out of the house but he jumped out the back and started jumping fences in an attempt to escape. Police searched for Campbell and located him a few minutes later trying to enter the McDonald's restaurant at Whitmore Avenue and Morgan Road. Police tried to apprehend Campbell before he could get inside but he bolted. Unknown if he still had a knife, police released a canine which stopped him as he was standing in Whitmore Avenue west of Morgan Road.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Pat Crane said Campbell was talking about vampires and thought he was in Mexico being pursued by Mexican police.

After he was treated for dog bite wounds to his right forearm, Campbell was booked on charges of being under the influence, resisting arrest and violating the terms of his parole.
