A 42-year-old Ceres man was arrested Wednesday and charged with child molestation reported to police 15 years after the fact.

Antonio Alejandro Lemus was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age and continuous sexual abuse of a child. He was being held in the County Jail with a bail of $1 million.

A 25-year-old woman contacted police on Oct. 21 to say she was molested 15 years ago by Lemus in the 2400 block of Joy Ave and the 1100 block of Edith Court. Ceres Police Detective Julio Amador said the woman had disclosed the crime to a family member a couple of years ago but decided against taking it to police. When she shared the information with another person last week, she was encouraged to file a criminal complaint against Lemus. The arrest was made after a police investigation.

Lemus has denied the allegations but Amador said "I feel we have enough to sustain these allegations."
