Man asleep on roadside couch arrested on warrants

Police arrested a man who was asleep on a discarded couch in the 2300 block of Fairview Drive who had two warrants for his arrest Monday morning.

At 10:10 a.m., Officer Eric Souza was on patrol and spotted Robert Fernandez, 46, of Ceres, sleeping on the couch. When he ran his ID through dispatch, he learned Fernandez was wanted for identity theft and vehicle theft. Fernandez ran from officers but was caught and arrested. He was booked on additional charges of resisting arrest and probation violation at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
