A 38-year-old south Modesto man was arrested for fatally stabbing his mother to death over the weekend.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance call the 800 block of Inyo Avenue in south Modesto early Saturday. They detained Zachary Morris as paramedics arrived and began to administer life-saving measures and transported the 55-year-old woman to a local area hospital where she was later declared dead.

Morris has been charged with homicide.

The Sheriff’s Department’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating the crime.

A forensic autopsy will be completed this week to determine cause and manner of death.

The Sheriff’s Office is still awaiting positive identification of the victim before announcing her name.
