A Ceres man was behind bars last week after he attacked an officer.
At 7:27 a.m. on Monday, May 9, police dispatchers had received multiple calls from people who reported his irrational and bizarre behavior at the Sierra View Apartments at 2121 Moffet Road. Callers believed that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. One witness said Baljeet Singh Bains, 38, of Ceres, had stolen a baseball bat and was armed with it.
Officer Eric Gallegos arrived first and confronted Bains who immediately dropped the bat but charged the officer. The officer pinned Bains up against a dumpster but the suspect continued to fight. Officer Gallegos took Bains to the ground and was assisted by another officer. They handcuffed and arrested Bains but as they attempted to walk him to the patrol car he stiffened hi s legs and tried to kick the officers. Bains was taken to the ground again where restraints were placed on his legs.
Bains' family said they were threatened by him over food with the bat. Bains was charged with threatening an officer and bystanders, resisting arrest, and making terrorist threats.
