Ceres resident Jose Raya, 36, was arrested Thursday evening after he allegedly violated a restraining order in the 2800 block of Dale Avenue and when denied entry to a home there pulled out a small knife and made threats to stab the victim.

By the time Officer Charles Rushing arrived after the 9:54 p.m. call to report the crime, Raya had fled on a bicycle.

Officer Matt Myers located Raya riding the bicycle near Walmart and attempted to stop him but Raya peddled faster a short distance before jumping off and complying with orders lay on the ground. Myers held Raya at gunpoint, believing he was still armed with a knife, until other officers arrived to assist in arresting him.

Raya was booked into the Public Safety Center for making criminal threats, resisting arrest and violation of a restraining order.
