A 29-year-old Modesto man who was wanted on several arrest warrants and carrying drugs was arrested Sunday afternoon during a traffic stop.

At 4:34 p.m., Officer Eric Souza was patrolling the area of Grandview and Belmont avenues when he stopped the driver of a Honda for vehicle code violations. The driver was Michael Chadwick, 29, of Modesto who gave the officer several false names. With the help of dispatchers, Chadwick’s true identity was revealed. He was arrested when a routine records check verified the warrants issued for auto theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.

While searching Chadwick, Officer Souza located over 24 grams of a white crystalline substance suspected as being methamphetamine in addition to a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.

Chadwick was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for the two felony warrants and new charges of providing a false name to police, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
