Ceres Police stopped a speeding car early Tuesday, Sept. 11 and arrested one of the passengers on weapons charges. Officers suspect that front passenger, Shawn Reid, 26, of Modesto, had been firing a gun from the car before it was pulled over.
According to Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Greg Yotsuya, at 2:45 a.m. a Ceres patrol officer began hearing the gunshots while patrolling in the area of Hatch Road and Richland Avenue. Officers saturated the area and began looking as they heard more gunshots. Officer Coey Henson spotted a car traveling at a high rate of speed from eastbound Woodworth Avenue onto southbound Richland Avenue and saw it ran the stop sign at Richland and Nadine avenues. Officer Henson stopped the car which contained three occupants.
Reid stepped out of the car and when he did, officers saw several spent shell casings on the floor board were he had been sitting. A short barrel AR-15 pistol with a large capacity magazine was located inside the vehicle.
Reid told police that he had been in a fight earlier but denied any knowledge of the gun. He was booked for numerous weapons related charges.
