Modesto man arrested in Smyrna Park with loaded handgun in car

A 19-year-old Modesto man who was drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana inside his parked car in the Smyrna Park parking lot was arrested Sunday morning for possession of a loaded handgun.

At 9:59 a.m., Ceres Police Officer Christian Izquierdo was rolling through the parking lot when he saw a black-colored Acura TL parked illegally and two subjects who appeared to be smoking marijuana and one drinking alcohol. Officer Izquierdo made contact with the men and eventually searched the vehicle when he found a loaded handgun resting between the door and driver’s seat where Josue Lopez, 19, of Modesto was seated.

Lopez was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in public and carrying a firearm not registered to him.

He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
