Motorist collides with motorcycle on Whitmore
Ceres Cop Car

A 22-year-old motorcycle rider from Ceres sustained a dislocated hip and abrasions after his motorcycle was struck by a car on Whitmore Avenue on Tuesday morning, Sept. 15.

The 11:55 a.m. crash occurred at Whitmore and Rose avenues and was witnessed by one police officer.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry said that Cristina Zapien, 66, of Modesto, was stopped in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe on northbound Rose Avenue at Whitmore waiting for traffic to clear. She waited for a westbound car, riding in the number 1 lane, to pass. She accelerated to go directly north but failed to see a 2012 Yamaha motorcycle being ridden in the number 2 lane and struck him from the side. Rider Jonathan Munoz, 22, of Ceres, flipped over the hood of the Tahoe and landed in the road.
