New Year's Eve and the first day of the new year proved busy for Ceres police officers who made a number of car stops that yielded drugs or drunken drivers.
An officer conducted a vehicle stop in the 2000 block of Whitmore Avenue at 10:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve and found a 17-year-old female passenger in possession of mushrooms and cocaine. She was arrested and booked on a charge of possession of cocaine.
Just eight minutes later, another officer stopped a car in the 1300 block of Herndon Road and found driver Lavro Garcia, 27, of Ceres, in possession of cocaine. He was arrested.
Thirty-three minutes into the new year, a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Service Road netted the arrest of Ignacio Rodriguez, 18, of Ceres, for possession of cocaine.
At 12:55 a.m. a Ceres officer stopped a driver for nearly hitting his patrol car in the 1200 block of Moffet Road. Driver Jacqueline Moreno, 25, of Modesto, was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.13. Moreno was arrested and booked on a charge of DUI.
At 3:14 a.m. on Jan. 1, a Ceres Fire battalion chief reported a possible drunk driver in the area of El Camino Avenue and North streets. He followed the car until a police officer arrived and arrested Jessica Johnson, 26, of Modesto, for DUI after blowing into the breathalyzer and registering a 0.19 BAC.
