A 33-year-old Ceres resident was arrested during a Friday pursuit in which he allegedly drove drunk and later attempted to kick an officer.

At 12:10 p.m. officers investigated a call from a citizen who was following Michael DeHart, 33, of Ceres, as he was driving erratically on Hatch Road approaching Mitchell Road. The reporting party stayed on the phone to help track the suspect and then witnessed DeHart rear-ended another car and flee the scene. The citizen continued following DeHart to the area of Lunar Drive and Trina Lane where police caught up to him.

Officer Josh Klinge attempted to stop DeHart on Lunar Drive but the driver stopped in front of his home on Puma Way and attempted to flee on foot. Klinge unleashed police canine Duke who apprehended DeHart with bites on the arm. During the arrest DeHart allegedly attempted to kick Officer Michael Vierra.

After treatment of the dog bite wounds at Doctors Medical Center, DeHart was arrested on charges of DUI, failure to stop to an emergency vehicle, assault on a peace officer and driving on a suspended license.
