Officer hurt in Whitmore Avenue crash
Ceres Cop Car

A Ceres Police motorcycle patrol officer went to the hospital Saturday evening with moderate injuries after the driver of a car was making a left turn in his path and they collided.

Officer Freddie Ortiz was riding a Harley motorcycle at approximately 50 mph westbound on Whitmore Avenue at 7:49 p.m. on Saturday. The California Highway Patrol said that Deborah Miller, 44, of Ceres, was driving a 2013 Ford Fusion at 20 mph eastbound on Whitmore Avenue. Miller moved into the center lane to make a left turn onto northbound Sixth Street but failed to see the motorcycle. Officer Ortiz applied his brakes but was unable to avoid a collision and struck the passenger side of the Ford. The officer sustained lacerations and abrasions to his hand, leg, face, chin and mouth. He was treated at a local hospital and released. Miller was not injured.

The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation of this collision.
