Ceres Cop Car

Police have no information on a suspect or motive as they investigate an early Friday shooting that sent a 44-year-old Ceres man to the hospital with a leg injury. They hope the public can shed some light on the crime and make an arrest.

The shooting, which occurred at Fifth Street and Whitmore Avenue, was reported to police at 4:15 a.m. by Doctors Medical Center emergency room staff. The victim had been taken there for treatment of a gunshot wound. Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber said the bullet entered behind the man's knee and exited through his shin. He told police he was walking home from a friend's house when he heard a gunshot from behind. He began to run away and heard a second shot and was hit in the back of the leg.

The shooter was in a car but the victim could not provide any details about the car.

The victim hobbled home and was transported to the hospital.
