A 43-year-old Modesto man was jailed on drug possession charges after he was seen passed out behind the wheel of his car parked in the fire lane on the east side of Walmart.

The arrest came at 1:04 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21 when Officer Brian Petersen was summoned to the store to check out the report of a man slumped over his steering wheel of a green-colored Acura Integra. On the passenger front seat Officer Petersen spotted the orange cap to a hypodermic needle and suspected Norman Hodges may have been “on the nod” rather than sleeping.

Hodges was on searchable probation for previous narcotics violations and a records check indicated he had two outstanding Modesto Police warrants for his arrest. After his arrest police found a key chain with a small silver canister containing a small bag with a small blackish brown substance likely to be heroin. A search of the car turned up drug paraphernalia. Hodges was booked for possession of narcotics, probation violation, and the outstanding warrants.
