A 28-year-old Ceres man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a residential garage on Sept. 1 and leading police on a chase.
Officers were called at 4:21 a.m. when the suspect, Rolando Solorio, was seen accessing a garage in the 1600 block of Running Lane, breaking into the house to steal the keys and driving off in a gray-colored Volkswagen Passat.
While Sgt. Vince Hooper was speaking to the victims, he spotted the Passat drive past the area with its headlights off. Sgt. Hooper radioed other officers in the area. Shortly thereafter, Officer Kevin Roseen and Officer Trinidad Viramontes spotted the Passat as it turned northbound onto Moffett Road from Glasgow Drive.
Officer Roseen attempted to stop the driver as he failed to stop at a red light at Hatch Road and Mitchell Road but Solorio continued. The pursuit went on until Solorio turned onto a dead-end street of Shallow Stream Way and collided into a parked vehicle. Solorio tried to run from police but was quickly apprehended in the 700 block of Shallow Stream Way.
Solorio was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of burglary, auto theft, evading peace officers in a vehicle without regard to public safety, resisting arrest, vehicle tampering and violating his probation.
