A 26-year-old Modesto man will face charges in court that he burglarized the Kentucky Fried Chicken/A&W restaurant at Mitchell and Hatch roads on Thursday.

Officer Christian Izquierdo was dispatched to the fast-food restaurant at 3:42 p.m. regarding a prior burglary. The manager reported that the night before, a male, later identified as Patrick Padilla, 26, of Modesto entered the closed store through an unlocked rear door. Surveillance video showed Padilla stealing an electronic tablet, keys to the business and cash.

Later in the day, at 10:07 p.m., officers returned to the KFC/A&W area after employees spotted Padilla in the area. Officer Jon Vera checked the area and located and detained Padilla in the Walmart parking lot. Padilla was in possession of the stolen set of keys from the store.

Officer Izquierdo confirmed Padilla was the same man seen in the surveillance video and was arrested. Padilla faces charges of commercial burglary, possession of stolen property and probation violations.
