An early Saturday traffic stop for an equipment violation at El Camino Avenue and Ninth Street got interesting when the white 2009 Honda Accord rolled backward and struck the patrol car behind it.

At 2:05 a.m., Officer Charles Rushing made the traffic stop. As Officer Rushing got out of his vehicle, he saw the Honda’s backup lights come on and the Honda rolled backwards, colliding with the front of his patrol vehicle. The occupants were detained, including 27-year-old Ceres resident Frank Rodriguez who was found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for the equipment violation and for backing up unsafely. Rodriguez was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for the warrants.
