Public's help needed in identifying arson suspect

The public is asked to provide police with clues as to the identity of a man who was seen on May 9 pouring gasoline from a gas can around a home in the 1700 block of Whitecloud Court.

The suspect had apparently lit a fire but it only blackened a section of sidewalk near the home.

A caller dialed 9-1-1 at 11:02 p.m. about the attempted arson. As officers responded the suspect fled southbound on Burton Drive and then eastbound on Walnut Avenue. Police found a broken Coke bottle with a wick on the street, an apparent Molotov cocktail that had not been ignited.

"We don't know what the motive is," said Ceres Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Berber. "The residents did not say if they had issues with anybody and we don't have any description of this suspect so we're asking anyone with information to give us a call."

Clues may be phoned into Ceres Police Detectives at 538-5727.
