A 33-year-old Modesto man was arrested early Friday after he led officers on a chase into Modesto after being spotted speeding in Ceres.

At 1:20 a.m., Ceres Police Officer Pat Dayton was patrolling in the area of Railroad and Central avenues when he spotted a Chevy pickup being driven at a high rate of speed on Railroad Avenue. Dayton attempted to catch the vehicle when he saw it run the red light at Whitmore and Railroad avenues.  He finally caught up as the pickup entered the freeway. Despite lights and sirens being activated, driver Pedro Guerra, 33, of Modesto, did not stop. Dayton continued to follow the pickup northbound on the freeway as it drove below 65 mph when it finally exited at Briggsmore Avenue. Guerra stopped in front of the IHOP restaurant where Payton conducted a high-risk traffic stop.  Guerra, who had an active arrest warrant issued from Merced, was taken into custody. He was booked for evading a police officer and the warrant.
