A 29-year-old Modesto man was arrested after he led a Ceres Police officer on a miles-long pursuit after he tried to pull him over for reckless driving.

At 10:59 p.m., Ceres Police Officer Eric Souza was patrolling the area of Mitchell and River roads when two vehicles sped past him. The driver of one of the vehicles, an Acura ILX, continued speeding and driving recklessly. Officer Souza caught up to the Acura driven by Cristian Sanchez, 29, of Modesto and attempted to stop it. Sanchez refused to pull over and a pursuit was initiated. The chase lasted several miles with Sanchez speeding and driving recklessly until he finally pulled over in the area of Richland Avenue and Hatch Road. Sanchez was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on charges of evading a police officer, engaging in street racing and driving without a license.
