An act of reckless driving on Highway 99 with a Ceres Police officer right behind to watch it all ended with the driver, going to jail on drug charges early Tuesday, Dec. 15.
At 12:42 a.m., Officer Eric Gallegos was northbound on Highway 99 from Whitmore Avenue when he watched a silver pickup, behind a semi-truck and trailer, attempted to pass using the shoulder. After a near collision, the pickup driver pulled back behind the semi-truck and trailer.
Officer Gallegos conducted a traffic stop on the Crowslanding Road off-ramp and found that driver Alejandro Serrato, 38, of Ceres, was on parole. During a search, a small plastic bindle of suspected methamphetamine was located in Serrato’s sock.
Serrato was arrested and his parole agent placed a parole hold on him. Serrato was booked at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center where a second bindle of suspected methamphetamine was discovered in a sock.
Serrato faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and violation of parole.
