A 57-year-old man sustained serious facial injuries in a head-on Saturday crash that police blame on an allegedly intoxicated female driver.

Miguel Medina, of Ceres, was driving a 1973 Toyota pickup eastbound on Whitmore Avenue at midnight when an oncoming car swerved into his lane at Fiesta Way and the two collided head-on. Medina was attended to by paramedics who took him to a Modesto hospital for treatment of injuries to his face.

Police arrested Jessica Garcia, 21, of Riverbank, who they say was driving her 2005 Honda Civic westbound on Whitmore Avenue while intoxicated. Police administered two Breathalyzer tests which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.21 and 0.19. Garcia was arrested and charged with felony DUI resulting in serious injury.

Both vehicles sustained major damage, said Lt. Brent Smith.
