Police are investigating a Saturday stabbing that occurred in the 1000 block of Sun Meadow Drive which sent a 46-year-old man to the hospital for life-threatening knife wounds to the chest.

Police said the man's son, Carlos Macias, 26, of Hayward, was arrested later that day.

At 8:54 a.m. Ceres officers and paramedics were dispatched to the stabbing. The victim was transported to a local hospital for surgery. Macias fled the scene prior to police arriving.

At 11:32 p.m. police were called by a neighbor who saw a suspicious man wearing a black hoodie go into a garage. Officers surrounded the house and saw the suspect try to get into a vehicle parked on the street. The suspect turned out to be Carlos Macias, still wearing bloody clothes from the stabbing that morning, who was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder.
