A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday for allegedly attacking another man in an Oct. 28 road rage incident in the Ceres area.

Acting on a tip, deputies arrested Fernando Gonzalez Gomez, 25, who was driving a new vehicle located on Nadine and Musick avenues. He was detained and arrested without incident. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism.

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the attack, which occurred when a man was attacked with a machete on Herndon Road. The victim was struck in the left arm but did not sustain life threatening injuries.

“The victim was wearing a heavy leather jacket at the time and it sounds like the thickness of the coat absorbed the impact of the machete,” said Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Luke Schwartz.

Investigators believe that the victim and Gomez knew each other.

“They are familiar with one another so there’s probably more than meets the eye,” said Sgt. Schwartz.
