Teen arrested in Keyes shooting
Handcuffs

A 15-year-old Keyes teen was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall Tuesday, Jan. 2 on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with an earlier shooting.

Deputies were dispatched at 2:08 p.m. to 7th Street and Jennie Avenue in Keyes for reports of a shooting. Their investigation found that two males were fighting in the road when a 39-year-old man broke up the fight but was shot in the stomach by one of the men. The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and was expected to survive.

The teenage suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived. A search for him ended when deputies found him in an orchard in the 5700 block of Washington Road. He was arrested and booked for the shooting as well as a December assault of an elderly family member.

The name of the suspect was not released because of a state law protecting the identities of minors arrested for crimes.
