Two arrested while riding in stolen pickup

One man was arrested for auto theft and his passenger booked for two outstanding warrants when a Ceres policeman noticed the pickup they were riding in was stolen.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25/2017 Officer George Hooper was patrolling the area of Richland/Evans when he saw a black Mitsubishi pickup driving southbound on Richland Avenue approaching Evans Road. He checked the license plate and found the vehicle was stolen in Alameda five days prior. Hooper followed the pickup for a short distance before it pulled into the parking area of an apartment complex in 1600 block of Evans Road. The officer Hooper pulled in behind the pickup, activated his emergency lights then conducted a high-risk stop. Once additional officers arrived to assist the passenger and driver of the pickup truck were both detained.

Driver Alton Russell, 22, of Ceres, was booked for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and driving on a suspended license. Passenger Antoinette Torres, 24, of Modesto, was arrested for two outstanding warrants.
