Two men in Keyes were arrested Wednesday morning, Sept. 23 on suspicion of an illegal marijuana growing operation and their dog was shot after it reportedly attacked a Stanislaus County Sheriff’s canine.

The condition of the dog was not immediately known.

Sheriff’s deputies suspected the residence on Washington Road home was growing marijuana during a traffic stop made nearby at an earlier time. When they attempted to serve a search warrant at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday a man inside the house refused to open the door. When deputies entered the home, they were confronted by the man and a large dog which proceeded to lunge at the sheriff’s canine. A deputy then shot the dog.

The home yielded approximately 1,000 marijuana plants, processed marijuana and a loaded shotgun. Arrested were Everarfo Chavez, 61, of Keyes, on suspicion of marijuana cultivation; and Robert Perez, 48, also of Keyes, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer.

DRUG ADDICT ARRESTED AGAIN

A 49-year-old Modesto man with an extensive history of drug arrested was back in jail when he was found with meth and a meth pipe during a Tuesday, Sept. 22 encounter with Ceres Police.

Shay Gore was confronted by Officer Maloney at 10:58 p.m. in front of the Chevron station at 1821 Mitchell Road. Gore freely said he was in possession of narcotics.

Gore has been arrested for drug offenses at least four times since 2019.

Gore was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with two or more priors, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

VEHICLE STOP NETS ARREST OF MAN WANTED FOR THEFT

A Wednesday afternoon car stop for vehicle code violations netted the arrest of Eduardo Carrillo, 33, of Modesto on a warrant to stand charge for a prior theft.

Ceres Police Officer Gary Singh was patrolling the area of Service and Mitchell roads at approximately 1:52 p.m., when he stopped Carrillo in a Jeep Latitude. A records check showed that Carrillo had a felony warrant for his arrest. Carrillo was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.

MAN PICKED UP FOR THEFT WARRANT

Walter Jordan, 50, of Modesto was arrested Thursday evening by a Ceres police officer who recognized him as being wanted.

At approximately 6:17 p.m., Officer Christian Diaz was patrolling the area of Hatch Road near Herndon Road when he spotted Jordan. He was promptly arrested for the warrant and booked into the Public Safety Center.
